The August re-verify

The August re-verify

The list you built in the spring took a summer of damage while nobody was watching it. June and July are peak months for changing jobs, a wave we wrote about while it was cresting in early July, and every one of those moves quietly converted a good record into a wrong number, a dead inbox, or a title that no longer matches the persona. The list looks the same in the CRM. It is not the same list.

Decay disguises itself as a message problem

Here is why summer decay costs teams a double price. When connect rates drift down through August and September, the visible evidence all points at the message: fewer answers, fewer conversations, flat replies. So the team rewrites the opener, changes the subject lines, debates tone, and none of it moves the number, because the dials were landing on voicemail boxes of people who left in June. Diagnosis follows data quality. Until the list is verified, every downstream conclusion is drawn from noise, and the two weeks spent polishing a message that was never the problem are two weeks September does not give back.

The pass itself

Tier one first. The top accounts get human verification, not a batch job: confirm the person is still in the seat, the mobile is live, and the title still matches the persona the message was written for. For the hundred accounts that matter most, this is two afternoons of work. Against the cost of burning tier-one attention on stale records, it is the cheapest labor of the quarter.

Flag the movers, do not delete them. A contact who left is not a dead record. It is two live ones. The account has a successor inheriting the same problem with fresh eyes and no incumbent loyalty, and the mover has your problem-awareness at a new company with new budget. That double opening is the motion we detailed in champion tracking, and August is when a whole summer of it comes due at once.

Let the rest earn verification by tier. Below tier one, verify in the order the accounts will be worked, and let the September calling schedule set the sequence. A record that will not be dialed until October does not need an August afternoon spent on it.

September's connect rate is set now

Connect rate is the first domino of the fall funnel. Dials that reach live, correct people become conversations, conversations become meetings, and the whole chain inherits the quality of the data underneath it. A team that walks into September with a verified tier one starts the fall compounding. A team that walks in with the spring list spends September discovering, one voicemail at a time, what an August pass would have found in two afternoons.

This is standing work inside CommandVA: signal targeting is rescored weekly, and the accounts our reps dial are verified as part of working them, so the list never gets a season behind. If your connect rate has been drifting and the message keeps taking the blame, book a strategy call. Bring the list. We will tell you within an hour whether you have a message problem or a data problem, and they have very different prices.
